Teaching is considered a noble profession. Even its founders are Prophets. With the passage of time, this field kept on expanding, and the people associated with this profession also increased. The total number of art and science colleges functioning in the country is 939, different professional colleges amount to 374, whereas, there are 29 established universities. Total teachers instructing in art and science colleges are 26,494, out of which 10,411 are females. Teachers working in different professional colleges are 9,358, including 2,015 females, whereas, those teaching in universities are 5,160, with 1,247 females. One can apply for teaching in any college or university, after at least doing masters in one’s subject of interest. You may follow four of the available paths to do masters- Science, Commerce, Art or Information Technology (IT). You may also get employment as a gazetted officer in any government institution, after clearing the competitive examination. If you are an MA Bed, then you can directly get a 17 grade employment, in the public sector. Likewise, you can also work in any private organization. In the private sector, even though job security is not comparable to that prevailing in the public sector, but prospects for growth and promotion are quite satisfactory, and salary structure is also better in comparison. One can join any college as a lecturer and with the passage of time and increase in experience, may become an Assistant Professor, followed by an Associate Professor, and finally, can be posted as a Professor. Most of the people, and specifically females are attracted towards this profession because, the working hours are limited along with salary for a whole day. Besides, one also gets vacations for two and a half months, and also has the opportunity to work part time in some other institution. Moreover, one also gets other benefits and perks in government institutions for instance, if one does not avail his/ her leaves, he/ she also has the facility of leave encashment on hand. There are separate allowances assigned for paper invigilation, whereas, one can also avail the facility of acquiring higher education abroad. Normally, this quality and quantity of perks are not experienced in any other profession. Therefore, if you want to enter this field, then you may apply for any such post, immediately doing masters because even experience is not a pre requisite for applying.
