All over the world hotel
has become an industry. There are many hotels in Pakistan,
especially in Northern areas where tourists visit, to view the
beautiful landscape. To understand the management, scientific,
financial and operational systems of a hotel, it is very
important to have a college level degree. There is no degree
in this field, but a diploma in hotel management is offered in
our country. There are five departments of hotel management:
Front office or rooms department, housekeeping, food &
beverage, engineering and finance. Front office marketing is
responsible for reservation of rooms, postal mails, messages,
information and customer services. For which bellboys, phone
operators, clerks and lift operators are required. This
department works under a front office manager. Second
department is of house keeping, which is run under executive
housekeeper. His responsibility is to look after maids,
houseman, linen room operators, porters, floor clerks,
seamstress, plumbers, upholsters, window washers and
cleanliness of hotel and rooms. Decoration in parties,
banquets and exhibition also comes under this department.
Engineering department is responsible for repair and working
of all the technical, mechanical and electrical equipment of a
hotel.
Food and beverage department is responsible
for the purchase, usage, preparation, serving and storage of
food. A food and beverage manager heads this department.
Steward, Chief Steward, chefs, cooks, food preparation
workers, waiters and headwaiters work in this department.
Finance and marketing department takes care of all the
expenses, monthly salaries and sales and purchases of a hotel.
This department also generates analytical reports, which
informs the management about the changing market trends. With
the increasing trend of international business and tourism it
is expected that more hotels will soon open up in Pakistan,
which will give boost to the hotel industry. |
