The expertise of mechanical engineering is everywhere to be seen- right from appliances of normal usage at home, to rocket launchers and robots. This is exactly why it is termed as the mother of all engineerings. Basically, mechanical engineering is associated with machines and the production of energy. Activities in this field include,

  • Machine designing

  • Maintenance operations, and

  • Research and development

Moreover, the marketing and sale of various machines and their parts, is also included.

With an increase, in the number of inventions, development of industries and the use of natural resources; the importance and advantages of mechanical engineers have also increased. Mechanical engineers have scope in all those areas which involve, energy conversion, power generation, manufacturing transportation, machine designing, automated engineering systems, or the control of the components of these systems.

Even though a mechanic working in a work shop possesses sufficient practical knowledge regarding machines, however, his knowledge is not comparable to that of someone who has acquired formal education in this field. At present, education in mechanical engineering can be acquired from 6 renowned universities all over Pakistan. Besides, diploma in mechanical engineering can also be acquired from various technical schools recognized by the Technical Board. Up till now, Pakistan Engineering

Council (PEC) has registered around 17,776 mechanical engineers, out of which 162 are females. We are a developing nation, where even though the growth of industries is relatively slow, however, mechanical engineers can find employment in various industries like, automobile industry, shipping industry, textile industry, foundries etc. Even abroad specifically in Middle Eastern countries, mechanical engineers of our country are in high demand. A fresh graduate of mechanical engineering can get a job of 17 grade in the public sector. In private institutions, the starting salary ranges between 6,000 and 8,000, which increase with an increase in experience. Besides, other benefits and perks are also available.
