The benefits and authorities available to a
CSP officer, make a government job quite attractive. This is
why, the new generation desire for a reputed government
employment, even though the span of employment opportunities
available has widened to a sufficient extent.
Public servants being a part of the
government, work closely with the public sector. The
operations of different ministries, government organizations,
and important national institutions, depend on these
government officials. They take care of the management of the
state, from remote areas in interiors, to major institutions
of the capital city. They maintain law and order, and receive
taxes from various tax payers, in order to uphold the national
treasury up to an optimum level. They also administer commerce
and trade activities along with the treasury, and communicate
important official instructions and announcements, to the

embassies. According to several sections of the Federal
Ordinance 1977, officials are employed in 10 different groups,
for 17 grade employment. One may opt for any such group,
according to his interest and skills. These groups are listed

In order to be inducted in one of these
groups, one must at least be a graduate, and should pass a
specific examination, commonly known as the Competitive
Examination. This exam is meant for Central Superior Services
(CSS). This exam is conducted simultaneously in all the five
major cities- Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar,
under Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). These
examinations are announced through various newspapers.
Application forms for this exam is available at the offices of
FPSC, different national universities, and Pakistani
embassies, located abroad. In order to appear for CSS
examination, one needs to have Pakistani nationality.
Furthermore, his age should be above 21, and must not exceed
28. This exam can be attempted thrice. Thousands of young
people appear in this exam, each year through out the country.
Candidates are selected on the basis of available vacancies.
In the first phase, selected officials are sent for initial
collective training to the academy. After completing this
training, they are sent to their respective departments, for
specific coaching. In initial stages, a CSS officer may earn
up to 8,000. Besides, he also gets other benefits and
facilities. They also get promotion and increments, on the
basis of their performance, in each category. In order to
succeed in CSS examination, hard work, continued study,
determination and interest are basic requirements. If you
