Human creative senses are attracted towards beautiful colors and designs. Likewise, motives on clothes and bed sheets symbolize ones sense of imagination and nature. Clothing is one of the basic necessities of human beings. In our daily life, we are exposed to designs and colors of curtains, furniture covers, wall papers, bed sheets, carpets, hosiery items, outfits etc. These different forms of cloth are designed by textile designers. Textile designers give different forms to cloth, keeping in view its type and nature of use. They also select colors for these items. Textile designing dates back to centuries. We can observe different designs on outfits, appearing in Egyptian mausoleums. Since the independence of Pakistan, the textile industry has always remained the most flourishing industry amongst all. Around 67% of total exports comprise of textile items. This is why; this industry is considered back bone for our economy. In our country, education of textile designing can be acquired from various public and private universities and institutions. After gaining expertise in this field, one can get employment as designer, in any mill associated with the manufacturing of textile products. Apart from employment, designers can also work free lance. Nowadays, most of the work in textile designing is being done by computers. Therefore, it has become mandatory that textile designers should also be aware of computer knowledge and textile designing softwares, along with the manual skills. Initially, designers may earn up to 6,000 to 8,000 on job. This figure can also increase, depending on the expertise and differentiating style of designers. Basic qualities of designers are to select the correct combination of colors, reproduce different designs, and introduce variety in textile designing.
