Teeth are the most
important part of human body, which also contribute to one’s
beauty. All problems and ailments associated to this very
significant part of body are treated by a doctor, who has
specially graduated in this discipline. This doctor is termed

According to an estimate, approximately 90%
of the population of Pakistan suffers from dental diseases.
The figures issued by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC)
show, that there are 5,433 dentists in the country, whereas,
the total number of specialists are only 348. The Economic
Survey of Pakistan states, that there is only 1 dentist for a
population of 29,405 through out the country, whereas, there
is one graduate dentist available for 1,466 people.
At present, there are 19 private and public
dental colleges operating in the country. People graduating
from these colleges can find employment in any hospital
established by the public or private sector. In government
employment, salary starts between 5,000 and 6,000, whereas, in
the private sector, it ranges between 6,000 and 7,000.
Dentists may also engage in private practice, for which at
least an investment of 300,000 is required. Like any other
profession, dentists should also possess certain basic
qualities like, hard work, readiness to sacrifice one’s own
comfort, sympathy, tolerance and concentration. If you possess
all these traits, then this field is ideal for you to be
