The profession of nursing
is associated with taking care of patients. Even though
doctors are there in hospitals, but one cannot deny the
importance of nurses. Though, this profession is quite old,
the person who is responsible for establishing it as a
profession, is Florence Nightingale. The profession of nursing
is no more limited to taking care of patients in hospitals.
Infect, the services of nurses have extended, from only an
individual, to a family, or a community. Let this service be
preventing a disease, finding cure of a sickness, or
diagnosing an ailment.
In the last two decades, the profession of
nursing has developed to a sufficient extent in Pakistan; and
now the education of nursing is being given, not only in big
government hospitals, but in private hospitals as well.
Besides, enough work has been done, to give an important
profession like nursing, its most deserving position.
Currently, according to a safe estimate, 1200 nurses graduate
each year, including the figure of male nurses. Previously,
diploma in nursing was considered the last step, but now even
in our country, after practicing nursing, one can acquire
higher education, and may select the option of teaching. Apart
from acquiring education in her relevant field, a good nurse
must also be sensitive, responsive to the sorrows of her
patients, and able to control her emotions, under extreme
stress and pressure, so that the patients may consider
themselves secure. Without these qualities, any nurse cannot
prove herself a good nurse. Till the near past, nursing was
not considered a good and respectable profession, however,
this trend is changing gradually, and it can be expected that
nurses will get their deserving position in the society. If
you think that you have the quality of serving the bereaved
humanity, then you are ideal for this profession, and by
adopting it, you can make your career an enlightened one. |
