The profession of nursing is associated with taking care of patients. Even though doctors are there in hospitals, but one cannot deny the importance of nurses. Though, this profession is quite old, the person who is responsible for establishing it as a profession, is Florence Nightingale. The profession of nursing is no more limited to taking care of patients in hospitals. Infect, the services of nurses have extended, from only an individual, to a family, or a community. Let this service be preventing a disease, finding cure of a sickness, or diagnosing an ailment.

In the last two decades, the profession of nursing has developed to a sufficient extent in Pakistan; and now the education of nursing is being given, not only in big government hospitals, but in private hospitals as well. Besides, enough work has been done, to give an important profession like nursing, its most deserving position. Currently, according to a safe estimate, 1200 nurses graduate each year, including the figure of male nurses. Previously, diploma in nursing was considered the last step, but now even in our country, after practicing nursing, one can acquire higher education, and may select the option of teaching. Apart from acquiring education in her relevant field, a good nurse must also be sensitive, responsive to the sorrows of her patients, and able to control her emotions, under extreme stress and pressure, so that the patients may consider themselves secure. Without these qualities, any nurse cannot prove herself a good nurse. Till the near past, nursing was not considered a good and respectable profession, however, this trend is changing gradually, and it can be expected that nurses will get their deserving position in the society. If you think that you have the quality of serving the bereaved humanity, then you are ideal for this profession, and by adopting it, you can make your career an enlightened one.
